On June 21st, 2017, the Canadian Water Summit hosted the first Women in Water Networking Breakfast to foster a dialogue and network of individuals supporting women and diversity in the water sector. The event was chaired by Dr. Imogen Coe, Dean, Faculty of Science at Ryerson University, featuring a panel of distinguished water leaders involved in promoting diversity in STEM fields (pictured above).
In 2018, the Canadian Water Summit is building upon the success of 2017 by partnering with Canada’s leading water industry associations from to explore knowledge and best practices for increasing diversity in the water sector.
We will host a panel of industry association leaders who will share insights on diversity-focused programs in the water sector. We will then facilitate small breakout-group discussions to share personal experiences, successes in increasing workplace diversity, and ways in which we can expand upon the past successes.
Discussions will focus on the following questions:
- What is known about current workplace diversity trends within the water sector?
- What efforts or programs exist to increase diversity in the sector—and what’s working?
- How can these successes be expanded upon?
Contributing partners will have an opportunity to share their research on workplace demographics or experiences with program to increase workplace diversity. The goal is to increase awareness and understanding of best practices and to foster collaborations and support to propel new or existing program forward.
