Students on Ice & the C3 expedition
Geoff Green, C.M. is the Expedition Leader of Canada C3, a signature project for Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation in 2017. The C3 expedition is an epic 150-day sailing journey from Toronto to Victoria via the Northwest Passage that will connect Canadians from coast to coast to coast and inspire a deeper understanding of our land, our peoples and the past, present and future of our country. It will include 300 Canadians, over 150 days, travelling across three coasts. Geoff is the Founder and President of the Students on Ice (SOI) Foundation, a globally recognized program that takes youth, scientists, elders, artists and explorers from around the world on educational journeys to the Arctic and Antarctic. He has led over 125 expeditions to the polar regions, as well as numerous other journeys to many fascinating and remote corners of the planet. More than 2,500 youth from 52 countries have participated in SOI’s award-winning program. He was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2012, and has received numerous awards and including, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal; Fellow, the Royal Canadian Geographical Society; an Honorary Doctorate of Education from Nipissing University; and he was bestowed the Inuktitut name “Pitsiulak” by the Commissioner of Nunavut. Geoff and his wife live with their two children in Chelsea, Quebec.
