Message from Todd Latham and Andrew Macklin

Hello Canadian Water Summit, CWWA Window on Ottawa delegates, supporters, and fellow “water nerds” everywhere!

Thank you for attending the virtual 2020 Canadian Water Summit, Window on Ottawa, and Water’s Next Awards on Thursday, June 11th—over 200 participants enjoyed the featured speakers and fun celebrations over four hours of interactive programming.

As you know, the in-person Canadian Water Summit and Window on Ottawa was postponed to June 9-11, 2021 at the Delta Ottawa Centre in our nation’s capitol. As travel and hotel restrictions are being lifted, we hope you will mark your calendars to attend in person.

We were encouraged by the level of participation we received from water industry professionals nationwide during our 2020 virtual summit. As a result, we plan to live-stream key elements of the 2021 program and the entire 2021 Water’s Next Awards ceremony for those who can’t be there in person. Registration options will be available shortly, so stay tuned by following @CdnWaterSummit on Twitter for updates.

The 12th Annual Canadian Water Summit agenda in 2021 will advance the conversation on our Blue Economy. We feel the term should be about more than ocean plastics and marine ecosystems (as currently defined for the UN) and include groundwater, drinking water, rainwater, flooding, conveyance, decentralized systems, wastewater and even bottled water. We have to look at water holistically and inclusive of all sources, uses, technologies, impacts, education and conservation.

At CWS 2021 we want to explore this premise with you; wherever water exists and whomever it touches professionally should be a stakeholder in the global Blue Economy. Whether you are a fisherman in Nova Scotia, a conservation officer at a wetland park, an urban hydrogeology student, government water policy advisor, or a wastewater treatment operator at a First Nation community, we consider you to be part of the Blue Economy – so join us in the conversation!

Sincerely,

Todd Latham – President, Actual Media Inc.

Andrew Macklin – Director, Canadian Water Summit 2021
